Zacharias Wolfe began his musical journey as a performer and started composing halfway through a bachelor’s degree in oboe at the Royal College of Music in London. At the RCM he studied composition with Dr Haris Kittos and oboe with Olivier Stankiewicz, principal oboe of the London Symphony Orchestra, graduating with Distinction. He has since completed a master’s degree in composition at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he studied with Per Mårtensson.

His music has been performed by ensembles such as the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, Quatuor Bozzini and KammarensembleN, and has been heard across Europe, including at Mixtur festival in Barcelona, Harpa Concert Hall in Iceland and the Royal Academy of Arts in London. His interest in interdisciplinary collaboration has led him to work with dancers, sculptors and directors. In 2023 he started the organisation Hjorted Art and Music, which annually produces Collision Points, a festival for new music and art in rural Sweden. His work in media and film includes collaborations with Gucci, Moncler and Dubai Design Week, and his work has been screened at film festivals worldwide.

A common thread in Zacharias’s music is a focus on boundaries: between listener and performer, between the individual and the collective, between the artificial and the human, and between the familiar and the surreal. He is drawn to interpersonal ways of creating musical material and often involves musicians and audiences in the compositional process through interviews, text scores, transcriptions, sampling and improvisation. Fascinated by the overlooked and the found, he deconstructs cultural references to uncover a hidden tenderness in the banal and a primal force beneath the playful. The result is an unexpected and eclectic musical output in which electronic and acoustic sound worlds meet.
